OZIL THE PARTY ANIMAL

Mesut loved his Bend-ers

- ■ by JOHN CROSS

NICKLAS BENDTNER has revealed that Mesut Ozil was a real party animal when he arrived at Arsenal.

The ex-Gunners striker, 31, says he took Ozil out into London THREE times in his first week after he arrived at the Emirates in 2013.

That was despite the former Germany international angrily denying Real Madrid sold him because he went out partying too much.

Ozil, also 31, is now married to former Miss Turkey Amine Gulse but Bendtner says he “loved ladies” and knew “how to fire it” on a night out.

Danish international Bendtner, in his new book Both Sides, writes: “On his second day at Arsenal, he visits me for training. ‘I hear you’re the go-to guy if you want to look around in the nightlife?’ ‘It’s not entirely wrong,’ I reply.

“Ozil is a bachelor and during his first week in London we take the trip three times. He does not act crazy or particularly demanding when he is out, but he knows how to fire it. And like so many others, he loves ladies. No doubt about it.

“Many people describe the guy as a bit arrogant, but that’s not my experience. He is just quiet by nature and it can confuse people.”

Bendtner also revealed how he launched a foul-mouthed assault on Arsene Wenger when the then Arsenal boss stopped him leaving.

He branded Wenger an “a**hole and w **** r” in a phone call after his move to Crystal Palace was called off on deadline day in 2013.

Wenger called Bendtner to tell him he would have to stay and be a backup striker. He started just one Premier League game that season.

Now at FC Copenhagen, Bendtner wrote: “Wenger rings. He goes straight to the case. ‘We haven’t been able to buy the striker we wanted. So now you have to be a back-up. It will be your job next year.’

“I hang up. Then I call back, saying a lot of ugly, disrespectful things like ‘a**hole’ and ‘w **** r.’

“Wenger replies, ‘It’s not going to happen. See you for training.’

“I have a sleepless night, and on Tuesday I drive early to London Colney. I go directly to the manager’s office and knock. ‘You must excuse the things I said yesterday,’ I begin.

“I really don’t want to be Wenger’s enemy. ‘We forget it and look forward,’ he says.

“I’m not that naive. My chances in the Arsenal jersey have never been less.”
