JOHN SETS RAP BACK IN MOTION

Footie ace aiming for No1

- By PETER DYKE

FOOTBALL legend John Barnes wants to score a No1 again with his hit song World In Motion.

The track topped the charts in 1990 as England’s official World Cup song.

It was performed by New Order and featured backing vocals by members of the Three Lions team at the time including Gazza, Des Walker and Peter Beardsley, but the highlight of the song was Barnes performing a rap.

Next week fans will see him do it once again on ITV’s Harry’s Heroes: The Full English.

The show follows Harry Redknapp as he tries to get a bunch of retired 90s football stars back into shape.

Barnes is Harry’s sidekick on the TV show and in a bonding exercise he goes back to the recording studio with former team-mate Chris Waddle

– who actually sang on the original song – along with fellow England stars Mark Wright, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier and Robbie Fowler.

Barnes, who has them in fits of giggles, wows the stars with a word perfect rendition of his famous rap and says World In Motion should be re-released as it is such a “feelgood song” for the nation.

The ex Watford and Liverpool star said: “It was great to get back in the studio. It would be great to get the song back in the charts once again.

“It brings back such great memories plus everyone will get to hear my legendary rapping skills again. I didn’t even need a reminder of the lyrics.” HIT HOPES: Barnes
