Leicester – EASTLAKE (nb) was a very useful chaser in his prime, landing the 2016 Topham Chase at Aintree among his nine wins over fences. Still trained by Jonjo O’Neill and owned by J P McManus, the 13-year-old makes his hunter chase debut this afternoon and crack amateur Jamie Codd comes over from Ireland to ride him. Punters should take the hint. Full Trottle looks the one for the forecast. This seven-time point winner is five from seven in hunter chases after his Lingfield win last month.

Sandown – GLENO (nap) is still 8lb well in at the weights even under a penalty for his recent Wincanton romp. He had shown little for Gary Moore after joining the Sussex stable from Ireland, but his latest run was a revelation. He took it up three out and gradually pulled clear for a 17-length success. He incurs a 7lb penalty, but has been raised 15lb by the assessor. Victory was achieved on good ground, but he has form on heavy so the forecast soft ground should be fine. He was also a nine-length winner over the useful Precious Cargo (runs in the 2.00 on this card) so is not devoid of speed. Biggest threat is Duc De Beauchene,

also a winner last time out at Plumpton, where he had a length to spare over Mr Jack.

Newcastle – ANOTHER ANGEL (treble) is a five-time winner here and can gain another success on his favourite track. In fact, apart from two outings at Wolverhampton, Antony Brittain’s runner has done all his all-weather racing in the north-east. His last victory here was at the start of last month when he had a neck to spare over Pea Shooter,

who re-opposes tonight. The latter is slightly better off at the weights, but the consistent and game Another Angel can triumph again. Fair Cop, from the Andrew Balding yard, would be a player, but has been off the track for 582 days and will surely need the run.
