Ainsworth tries fresh tactic

- By IAN BAKER

GARETH AINSWORTH expects Wycombe to be bouncing again after swapping training for trampolining.

The Chairboys ditched their normal routine this week for a bit of team building at a local centre.

Now Ainsworth hopes he will be jumping for joy at Coventry today.

He said: “I’m hoping the boys will spring into action after that.

“We’ve done some pretty wacky things at the training ground behind closed doors – mental and classroom sessions, some activities in the gym that people will think, ‘Why?’. They’ve all been great as development days.

“This was more public and helped raise our profile and that of Rush, the company that let us use the trampoline park. It was great, it was more of a team bonding session, there were two teams who worked together.

“It worked just as we wanted it to. It was a really good day and I would say to all managers, ‘Changing it up is not a bad thing’.

“The proof will be in the pudding over the next few weeks to see how good it was.

Higher

“People will often say I look like I’m on a trampoline in the technical area! I stayed off it, with my knees and ankles.

“But I will be looking like I’m on a mini trampoline on Saturday again.

“If the boys think they can get anything out of it and jump that little bit higher, it will have been worth it.” Winger Randell Williams said: “It was a bit of fun and nice to get out of the training ground and get some bonding. I’ve never done anything like that before.”

Ainsworth knows it will not be easy against a side that have beaten Wycombe in their last five meetings. He said: “Coventry are a good side. They were probably the best footballing side in League Two last season.

“They’ve changed quite a bit around but we’ve worked hard on the opposition.

“We know it will be a tough game against a good manager in Mark Robins, who must have picked up some ideas from Sir Alex.

“But we’re a difficult team to play against ourselves, very resilient, and I’m hoping we will be those things on Saturday.”
