Top firm’s offer to new staff

A GIANT accountancy firm is offering new employees the chance to work whatever hours they want.

Bosses at PwC will let staff choose their “preferred work pattern” when applying for a job.

They say the traditional way of working nine to five, Monday to Friday, is history.

Instead the Flexible Talent Network scheme will allow employees to choose shorter hours.

Or they can even elect to work just a few months every year.

More than 2,000 of the company’s employees have already registered for the scheme.

Laura Hinton, chief people officer at PwC, said: “People assume that to work at a big firm they need to follow traditional working patterns – we want to make it clear that isn’t the case.

“To recruit the best people, we recognise that we need to offer greater flexibility, different working options and a route back in for those looking to restart their careers. “We already encourage everyday flexibility, but our Flexible Talent Network takes flexible working to a new level.

“It allows people to choose exactly how they want to work during the year.” Ms Hinton said people with caring commitments, those who do other work and those who loved to travel would all benefit.

She added: “Offering flexibility in how people work is not only good for workers, but also for business, the economy and ultimately society.”

A poll of 2,000 adults in the UK showed nearly half thought flexible working and a good work-life balance were the most important factors for choosing a job.
