OUR MATT FINISH

Runners’ big tribute to tragic chef

- By RUTH McKEE ruth.mckee@dailystar.co.uk

SCORES of runners across the country are preparing to complete 3.7 miles in memory of Matt Campbell this weekend.

The show of solidarity is a nationwide tribute to the MasterChef: The Professionals star who died after collapsing at the 22.5-mile mark of the London Marathon last Sunday.

Medics battled to save the 28-year-old chef who fell ill in the 24C heat, but he died later that day.

And now two of his closest pals are calling on runners to join them on the marathon course tomorrow to run the final few miles he never made.

They will run from Shadwell

DLR station to the finish line on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. Others will run the distance in local parks. Chums Jamie Park and Tom Peters both met the keen runner when they starred on MasterChef last year.

Tom was running the London Marathon alongside Matt when he collapsed.

He said: “I met Matt in the MasterChef kitchen and he was infectious with his passion, not only for cooking but for healthy eating and also running.”

Runners all over the country will be joining together at local events under the #milesformatt banner.

Less than a week after his death, more than £200,000 has been donated to his JustGiving page for his chosen charity, the Brathay Trust. SHOCK: Star on Tuesday PASSION: Matt in the kitchen on MasterChef
