SILLY LILY’S ZULU RANT BACKFIRES
Singer slammed in battle row
LILY Allen was under fire last night after blasting the battle of Rorke’s Drift.
The pop singer branded London Underground staff “disgusting” over a station noticeboard message marking the conflict’s 139th anniversary.
She accused workers at Dollis Hill, north-west London, of celebrating colonialism by detailing the battle where 150 British and colonial troops fought off 4,000 Zulu warriors.
Eleven soldiers were awarded the Victoria Cross and their stand was made into the hit film Zulu.
Footage of a staff member rubbing off the message appeared online.
Lily, 32, inset, shared it with her 5.94million Twitter followers and commented: “Too right.”
But one follower replied: “Disgusting. Mentioning history like it really happened.” Lily fired back: “Celebrating it is disgusting yes.” Andrew Barber tweeted: “Poor little snowflakes can’t handle history and need a safe place.” Russell Turner told Allen: “Get over yourself... that wasn’t celebrating anything just relaying factual history.” Another wrote: “Please be respectful of this poor young lady who is obviously suffering from Post Celebrity Recognition and needs a daily dose of seeing her name in the media.” Last night Transport for London apologised. A spokesman said: “Our staff across the network share messages on these boards. “But in this instance the message was clearly ill-judged. We are speaking with our staff to remind them of what is and isn’t acceptable.”
