One-off SMTV return for Ant, Dec and Cat

- by PETER DYKE peter.dyke@dailystar.co.uk

ANT and Dec want to reunite with Cat Deeley for the 20th anniversary of SMTV.

The stars launched the Saturday morning show on ITV back in 1998.

It included the spoof Friends sitcom Chums and parody of Star Trek called SMTV 2099, Pokemon fights with the cast as well as competitions, cartoons and celebrity guests.

Geordies Ant and Dec quit in 2001 to front the talent series Pop Idol, while co-host Cat, 40, wed to Irish star Patrick Kielty, left a year later and moved to the US to become a successful presenter.

SMTV was axed in 2003. However, since next year marks its 20th anniversary, Ant and Dec admit plans are under way for a one-off reunion.

Dec, 41, told This Morning: "We are talking about maybe doing something if we can get Cat back from America. She's a big star out in America now, so she might come back if we beg."

The award-winning lads will be back on telly tonight with the 14th series of Saturday Night Takeaway. Both admit to being nervous. Ant, 41, joked: "I always get nervous before the first show back. I'm really clumsy." He said the fact he has not fallen down the stairs in 14 years worried him.

New features include a time machine for their Ant versus Dec challenges, so they will have to face tasks from the past, a new celebrity-packed comedy whodunnit called The Missing Crown Jewels, the return of Undercover as they try to prank stars like Jamie Oliver, and Little Ant and Dec will be back to quiz the stars.

Gogglebox star and Jungle queen Scarlett Moffatt will be joining to give some viewers the chance to have the best seats in the house at the live recordings.

She said: "It's a dream come true. If I wasn't doing this I'd be watching Takeaway with my family!"

The show starts tonight on ITV at 7pm.
