KELL TO PAY Hearn’s still angry with Brook over big Crawford deal

- By CHRIS McKENNA

EDDIE HEARN is fuming at Kell Brook for criticising him after he cut him out of talks for his clash with Terence Crawford.

The Matchroom promoter has worked with Brook for a l most a decade a nd bankrolled some of his fights which lost him huge money. But Brook has secured a £2million clash with WBO welterweight champ Crawford next month in Las Vegas and did not use Hearn to do the deal. Instead he and his father, Terry, spoke directly with Top Rank who represent three-weight world champion Crawford.

Sheffield star Brook ok (right) is not under r contract with Hearn so the Essex promoter was not bothered by being left out of the negotiations.

But he was riled by a recent interview Brook ook did in which he criticised riticised Hearn and Sky Sports for not doing a deal to broadcast the bout. And Hearn has blasted his former fighter who he helped through tough times, like when he was stabbed while on holiday in Tenerife in 2014. Hearn said: “What was so disheartening for me was when you talk about loyalty, I went way above and beyond trying to help Kell, I flew over there and was at the hospital when he was stabbed stabbed, sorting out all his med medical insurance, lots of thi things. We’ve had some g good times and it’s sad r really.”

Brook has ditched trainer Dominic Ingle and opted to bring in an unknown coach for the clash with one of the best fighters fi on the planet. Hearn said: “I feel really sorry for Dominic Ingle because he has done everything for him from day one and they have got a big cashout fight and got rid of him for it.” Brook became world champion in 2014 when he beat Shawn Porter and he had huge fights against the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr. But he never secured an all-British battle with rival Amir Khan, despite years of chasing the fight. Hearn added: “I don’t think he wasted too much time chasing Khan, I think he wasted too much time away from the gym. “Lots of times I had to drive up to Sheffield to keep him on track.”
