Passion’s play SEAMIE CAN DO JOB IN CLASSIC
AFTER being given several questionable rides this season,
PASSION (4.40) is taken to follow up her win in the Stanerra Stakes by winning the Irish St Leger this afternoon.
I expect Seamie Heffernan to make full use of her giant stride and pull the finish out of Ebor hero Fujaira Prince and last year’s Irish Derby winner Sovereign.
I am sure Battleground will be all the rage for the National Stakes but the each-way value against the O’Brien charge is
MASON (4.10) who got going too late in the Tyros Stakes and is hugely overpriced at
25-1.
The remaining Group One events may go to A’ALI (3.10) in the Flying Five, while I am hoping for a huge run from
TERESA MENDOZA (3.40) in the Moyglare.
Back in the UK, RIVER CAFE (2.45, nap) can finally get his career underway at the
26th time of asking at Bath. Connections have run him mainly on an artificial surface during his career but the Somerset track seems to suit his hold-up style of running.
I think he will run very well at double-figure odds.
Later on, I am expecting old
ROTHERWICK (3.15) to roll back the years and beat the younger brigade.
Although he definitely stays for a mile-and-a-half, a stamina test over this trip probably suits him best.
At Wolverhampton, VIOLA PARK (2.30) usually follows a poor comeback run with a massive performance at this lowly level and looks the one to pick at a good price.
She was tailed off last time out at Kempton but has a good record over this course and distance and can give weight away to Farewell Kiss.
After contesting several class two handicaps, TRUE DESTINY (4.05) gets a much-needed drop in grade in the two-mile handicap.
A reproduction of his third of eight behind Reshoun in July would make him a very strong fancy.
At Chelmsford, WOVEN (2.55) can make up for his unlucky second last time out at Goodwood. THERE’S some top action in Paris at Longchamp t his afternoon t oo and RAABIHAH ( 3.35) can announce herself as a massive danger to both Love and Enable in the Arc by winning the Prix Vermeille.
This beautifully bred daughter of Sea The Stars has been brought along steadily by trainer Jean Claude Rouget culminating in a very easy success in a Group Three race at Deauville and there should be loads more improvement to come on her first run over a mile-and-a-half.
STRADIVARIUS (4.10) has nothing to prove over two miles plus so connections are aiming him at the Arc.
I fancy that end aim could prove beyond him but he should be able to land the Prix Foy in what looks a moderate renewal.
Whether Ed Walker’s English King lands the Grand Prix de Paris (2.55) or not, I think connections have made a huge mistake in not running him in the St Leger yesterday.
He should run well here if back to his Derby best but its a big ask to reverse that Epsom form with SERPENTINE.
There is every reason to believe that we have yet to see the best of my selection.
The biggest danger to him today could be Gold Trip who should relish this extra yardage.
