My voiceovers are dead good

BIG BRO STAR CREM ‘EVICTION’ ROLE

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE edward.gleave@dailystar.co.uk

BIG Brother’s voiceover Marcus Bentley once told a fan she had been evicted – at her funeral.

The woman was so obsessed with the reality show, it was her dying request for him to do a special recording.

Marcus, inset, said: “I got an email asking if I’d do something for a woman who was dying. She wanted me to record her eviction from the world.

I think she was notorious for her sense of humour. It was the weirdest thing I’ve been asked to do.

“As she went through to the furnace and the curtain went, my recording played and said, ‘You have been evicted, please leave Planet Earth now.’”

He added: “When I recorded that, I thought, ‘F***ing hell.’

“But how could I possibly refuse?

“The family were thrilled that I agreed to do it. It was a bit surreal, though.”

Marcus, 52, is always in demand among Big Brother’s millions of fans.

He said: “I get asked to do all sorts of things. I’ve done stuff for weddings, bar mitzvahs, proposals.

“One time a mother told me she had made recordings of me from the show because the sound of my voice helped calm her autistic child.

“These are the sort of things that I love hearing about and doing.” Marcus has been one of TV’s most famous voices for the past two decades. Over the years he has narrated more than 40 series of the show, along with its celebrity spin-off. But being so recognisable also has its downsides.

He said: “When I used to pay bills over the phone, I hated it because the people on the other end would recognise my voice and get me to keep repeating my credit card details and laughing.

“So I stopped doing it in the end. Now my wife has to do it for me. “And years ago I’d get people ringing me in the middle of the night to listen to my voice on my answerphone. They rang about 10 times. So I had to put a stop to that.” Big Brother was axed by Channel 5 in 2018. But Marcus has now returned to work on the show for a highlights series celebrating its best moments.

Big Brother: Best Shows Ever, which starts tonight at 9pm on E4, will feature former hosts Davina McCall, Rylan ClarkNeal and Emma Willis.

Marcus said: “It feels really nice to be back and looking back over 20 years of greatness.

“It’s great having Davina, Rylan and Emma involved because they’re all massive fans of the show. They were never just doing a job.”
