WHETHER it’s the popping of a cork or the sight of bubbles bursting in a glass, a drop of bubbly is the perfect way to make New Year’s Eve a sparkling night to remember.

But it can be hard to know what to look for when picking the perfect bottle.

Plump for any old plonk and you might be left feeling a little flat.

Once you’ve selected your champagne, chill it to get the best out of it.

Pop it in the fridge for at least a couple of hours before you serve it. If chilling lots of bottles at once, you will need longer.

The classic way to chill bubbly is to place it in a container with ice and water – this works better than with ice alone.

Remember that the taste will be affected if the champagne is served too cold!
