IT’S POT POURRI

Fury over legal high being sold on eBay

-

EXCLUSIVE JIMMY McCLOSKEY Crime Editor A CRAFTY trader has been selling the recently banned legal high Spice on eBay by claiming it is “herbal pot pourri”.

He calls his £140 potion “powerful herbal incense for burning purposes”.

But the fragrances are suspiciously described as “chronic hypnotic” and “jungle juice”.

He says it has a “Deep Aroma”, insisting this is an “air freshener ;)” with the winking face hinting at the substance’s true purpose.

The 14g pack is hailed by the East Midlandsbased seller as the “Best in the UK by far”. He adds: “Don’t miss out while it’s still in stock, this is a onetime life opportunity.”

Other snaps of the supposed air freshener show it in a foil envelope, with the words “not for human consumption” scrawled on it.

Despite the high price, his page reveals seven of his 13 packages have already been sold.

Spice sellers have been using a range of tricks to continue selling synthetic cannabis to British fans four months after they were banned.

Last night Jeremy Sare, from anti legal highs charity the Angelus Foundation, said he was “very concerned” and called on eBay to crack down on cyber dealers.

Mr Sare said: “The new legislation has had a profound impact on high street and online sales of legal highs.

“We are very concerned about the worrying levels of supply of Spice to the homeless and prisoners. These substances are extremely harmful to mental health and very addictive.

“People may try to sell through sites like eBay but they have systems in place to stop illicit sales.”

Spice was outlawed under the Psychoactive Substances Act in May after legal highs were linked to more than 100 deaths in 2015, as well as a huge surge in violence in prisons.

Previously, users could buy the fixes, which mimic the effects of drugs such as cocaine and cannabis, at “head shops” across Britain. Most of these have now switched to selling e-cig equipment instead.

But other sneaky sellers continue to push Spice as “herbal incense” to satisfy people’s cravings.

We made approaches to eBay to ask them about the items on sale on their website but no spokesman was available to comment on the case.
