A teenAge boy was kicked in the head during a violent rammy at a men’s amateur football game.

Two youths were brutally attacked by up to 15 men following a football game between Forgewood AFC and Ravenswood AFC at St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge on Sunday.

One boy was dragged to the ground and kicked in the head by a man wearing a player’s kit and football boots.

Police Scotland have launched an investigation after footage of the sickening attack was shared online.

An eyewitness told the Record: “The children were at St Ambrose playing football. A few other boys were having some banter with the Forgewood AFC players and after the match there were even some high fives and fist bumps.

“Then a woman threatened one of the boys. He defended himself but then the kid was tackled to the ground by a player, and then he was kicked up and down the park.

“Two children ended up being beaten to the ground by a group of adults – punched, kicked and stamped into a bloody mess. Adults doing this to kids is unacceptable.” It is understood the youngsters were playing football on nearby pitches before they became involved in a mass fight with Forgewood players after the final whistle.

In the shocking footage, one youngster is dragged to the ground and kicked by multiple people. A player can be seen delivering a kick to the boy’s head before walking away. The extent of injuries sustained during the violence is unknown.

Forgewood AFC, from Motherwell, lost 5-1 to Ravenswood. The teams play in Airdrie and Coatbridge SAFL.

Police inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and who was involved. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.10pm on Sunday, January 14, a report was made to police of an assault on two male youths at football pitches in Coatbridge earlier that day. Inquiries are at an early stage.”

A North Lanarkshire Council spokesman said the pitch at St Ambrose High School had been hired by the organisers of the league.

The Daily Record has contacted Forgewood AFC, Ravenswood AFC and the Scottish Amateur Football Association for comment on the fight.
