It’s time for titans to battle

- BY ALISON MCCONNELL

GLASGOW CITY manager Eileen Gleeson has dubbed tomorrow’s showdown with Rangers a “clash of the titans”.

City host the reigning SWPL champions and, with both sides boasting 100 per cent league records, something will have to give.

Glasgow beat Celtic with a last-minute goal three weeks ago but then slipped to defeat against Hibs in the SWPL Cup semi-final.

Gleeson said: “We have had a good week in training with everyone applying themselves and we are looking forward to such a big game.

“It is fine margins. The potential to drop points is within these games, so it’ll be a real clash of the titans.

“We aren’t worried about an aura around Rangers. I don’t need to motivate the players for these games.

“We will be respectful of Rangers because we know they are good team, they are well organised.

“I’ll see two teams battling it out for all three points. I don’t expect a cagey affair. Both of us will be looking to win it.

“our experienced players must stand up here.”

Rangers manager Malky Thomson expects it to be a tight encounter.

His club have sustained the form of last season going into this campaign and have been the team to beat across the last year.

Thomson said: “It has been an exciting start for us and we have prepped well from the early days of pre-season.

“It will be a tight game and it will be determined by who is going to go out there and shine.”

Third-placed Celtic take on Hearts, looking to capitalise on any slip-up at Petershill after losing just one of nine games.

Elsewhere, Hibs play Glasgow Women while Motherwell face Aberdeen.

Dundee united host Spartans and Hamilton battle with Partick Thistle.
