NOTHING TOPS A BOT BELTER

- V BY ALAN ROBERTSON

JAMIE GLASGOW knows all too well the elation an Auchinleck cup shock sparks – after having to put out an appeal for his club gear after their most monumental victory.

Talbot’s fourth-round 1-0 win over Championship Ayr almost three years ago is etched in the memories of locals, the sight of scorer Craig McCracken darting off an iconic clip.

For some, that magical day will have flown by like a blur.

For Glasgow, the night was something of a hazy affair as Tommy Sloan’s squad did their post big-match ritual of touring the village pubs.

Hamilton are the latest SPFL team to walk into the Beechwood bear pit and the attacker said: “If we manage to get anything out of the game, I’m sure there will be other good stories to add.

“One for me was after the Ayr game there was a band on where the function was, everybody was on the dance floor singing.

“I’ve taken my trackie top off, then thrown my polo shirt into the crowd – carried away, steaming.

“When it came to the next game, I’m thinking, ‘I’ve not got my polo shirt’, then the penny’s dropped.

“I posted on Facebook, ‘Anybody got my polo shirt?’ and a person from Auchinleck messaged, ‘Aye, I’ve got it’.”

Glasgow, who turns 28 today, isn’t contemplating what could follow but the 90 minutes this afternoon.

He added: “You are in the wrong sport if you don’t go into any game with a hope and a belief that you can get a result.”

Accies defender Ben Stirling is well aware what he’ll be walking into. He was part of the Arbroath squad that scraped a replay with a late penalty the season after Ayr had been swept aside.

He said: “They’ve been on the TV for cup games so everyone knows what it is going to be like and will relish the opportunity.

“I’d just turned 21 when I was down there the first time. But a few boys have played there on loan, Miko Virtanen was down there with Arbroath with me, so experience and youth will hold us in good stead.”
