We have been Dun by a ref’s dodgy call

-

FRUSTRATED James McPake insists Alan Muir got his penalty decision wrong at Dens yesterday.

And the Dundee gaffer reckons it would have cost his side a point if they hadn’t shown great character to battle back against Hibs.

A late leveller from sub Paul McGowan earned the Dark Blues a fighting 2-2 draw at Dens Park.

Dundee had gone ahead through Jason Cummings but were left furious when Hibs were given the chance to level through Martin Boyle’s penalty before a Ryan Porteous strike made it 2-1.

Christie Elliott was adjudged to have pushed Jamie Murphy in the back but McPake didn’t think it was a spot-kick.

He said: “It wasn’t a penalty. The contact is outside the box.

“I’ve got the beauty of within five seconds I know.

“The referee has got a split second to make that decision but he has got to be spot on.

“The first contact is at least a yard outside the box. It’s a pretty simple decision in my opinion.

“I’ve spoken to him (the referee). He’s happy with his decision. That’s what they always say so I’m not going to say anything different.”

McGowan joined the Dundee fans in the stands when he scored and McPake knows that leveller was a big moment.

He said: “The fans have waited a while for that. They were right behind us.

“We’ve said it all along that if you give them something to cheer, they will. They just leave nothing out there and the crowd appreciate that.

“They were egging us on to go and get that winner, and we wanted just that, but it just wasn’t to be.”
