Flair of the Pog sends United to top again

- JOHN CROSS

FULHAM ............ MAN UNITED ....

PAUL POGBA produced a moment of magic to fire Manchester United back to the peak of the Premier League – just as their City rivals looked set to steal a march on them in this sensational title race.

Pogba scored with a stunning 65th-minute strike as United hit back from 1-0 down.

They had gone into the game with Pep Guardiola’s City at the summit after a win over Aston Villa in last night’s earlier match.

At first it seemed like the Etihad men might remain on top when Ademola Lookman gave Fulham an early lead in just the fifth minute after bursting the offside trap.

But United are made of sterner stuff these days.

After Bruno Fernandes rattled the post from 20 yards he whipped over a cross from the left, home keeper Alphonse Areola made a mess of it and fumbled the ball straight into Edinson Cavani’s path.

Cavani had the simple task of a tap-in in the 21st minute for his fifth goal of the season.

As the home side sat deeper, Pogba took matters into his own hands.

He drifted in from the left, found some space and unleashed a sensational curling left-foot shot which flew into the far corner of the net.

That extended United’s unbeaten run to 13 games in the Premier League.

Pogba said: “I hit the ball well. I didn’t expect it with the left foot like this but if you don’t try, then you don’t score. It was a beautiful goal and beautiful win.”

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added: “We started slow but after their goal we played well. We just needed to wake up.

“It was a really fantastic goal by Paul.”
