DON’T TALK BULL
Ando gives pundits an Ally Pally earful
GARY ANDERSON branded TV commentator Wayne Mardle a “numpty” and told Sky Sports pundit Rod Harrington: “I’ll carry on playing until I’m 90 to cheese you off.”
The Flying Scotsman is still hopping mad about being portrayed as the “bad guy” after his ill-tempered thirdround win over Mensur Suljovic at the William Hill PDC World Championship.
Anderson reached the quarter- finals with a 4- 0 demolition of Devon Petersen.
But he has neither forgotten nor forgiven Mardle and Harrington for telling him to stop moaning about Suljovic’s deliberate slow play.
Ando said: “Wayne Mardle’s comment the other night – what a ticket. If you’re playing a player and you need to put him off, slow him down? That’s coming from a Sky commentator. What a numpty. Tell you what, he should have stuck to playing darts instead of trying that – he might have actually won a few things.
“I play proper darts. I try to beat the other guy with what I’ve got in my hand, not ‘tactics’ or whatever Wayne tells you to do.
“If I thought I could win the world championship by slowing the game down five seconds, would I do it? No chance. I play darts the way it’s supposed to be played, and if you don’t like it, do one.
“I probably would have walked away until Harrington piped up. I was thinking about one giving it or two more years, but after his comment, even if I have go on there with a Zimmer frame, just to cheese him off, I’ll be here.
“I’m here to play darts – honest darts – and trying to beat the guy in front of me. If I’m wrong about that, jail me and walk away with the key.”
