Hospital drama is sore point for me

-

Nobody can get laughs out of old TV clips like Harry Hill, who had us in stitches on TV Burp just by sitting behind a desk and reviewing snippets from the week’s telly.

Now he’s back with some lessons on the history of the shows we know and love, genre by genre, in Harry Hill’s World Of TV.

All the usual suspects are here. There’ll be a show on police dramas, covering everything from Dixon of Dock Green, through the very un-PC action of The Sweeney, to our Sun Hill favourites in The Bill, and today’s acclaimed coppers who investigate coppers in Line of Duty.

Harry said: “There’s something really cosy and nostalgic about it.”

Thinking back to his favourites prompts Harry to consider his dream cameo appearances.

He said: “I loved The Sweeney and The Professionals – I’d love to be in The Professionals. They should remake it and I could be, you know, the head of CI5.”

But it’s not just cop dramas that appeal. He’s up for a stint in Soapland too.

Harry said: “I could be a long-lost Mitchell brother, come back from Spain… ‘Phil, ’ow’ve you bin?’”

You can bet he’ll find plenty to laugh about with the wobbly scenery in Crossroads, and there’ll be a look at the odd forgotten soap like Albion Market and The Grove Family.

Harry really warms to his theme when it comes to cookery shows.

He said: “You’ve got Nigella, you’ve got Jamie, you’ve got Delia. Nigella was always really great for us on TV Burp, the way she flirts with a camera. We’ve edited all these innuendos from Nigella and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. And Gordon Ramsay is constantly taking his shirt off, so that works really well.”

There’ll also be an episode on medical dramas, from Dr Finlay’s Casebook through to Emergency Ward 10, Angels in the 1970s and current faves Casualty and Holby City, which is a sore point.

Harry added: “I’ve always wanted a part in Holby City. Every interview I do I mention that. And still they haven’t rung.”
