DOs AND DON’Ts

-

DO...

■■Stay at home. ■■Separate yourself from other people – for example, try not to be in the same room as other people at the same time. ■■Stay in a separate, well-ventilated room with a window that can be opened. ■■Cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue when you cough or sneeze, then dispose of the tissues in a plastic waste bag before washing your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds. ■■Use a face mask when others are in the room with you if you have been issued with one. ■■Use a separate bathroom from the rest of the household if available. If a separate bathroom isn’t available, draw up a bathroom rota for washing and bathing, with the isolated person using it last, before thoroughly cleaning the bathroom themselves if they are able. ■■Use separate towels from your other household members. ■■Wash crockery and utensils thoroughly with soap and water. Dishwashers may be used to clean crockery and cutlery. ■■Regularly clean any other areas that are likely to be touched, such as tables, door handles, stair bannisters, drawers and cupboard doors. ■■Stay away from your pets. If unavoidable, wash your hands before and after contact.

DON’T...

■■Let any visitors inside, even if you are isolating elsewhere in the house. ■■Be tempted to go outside, even if it is just a walk in the park where you don’t touch anything or speak to anyone. Isolation really does mean isolation. ■■Answer the door. Leave a note on the front door with a number to ring if a delivery person or other visitor needs to speak to you. ■■Send laundry to be washed at a laundrette. ■■Share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, bedding or other items with other people in your home.
