Robbie so desperate to get up

-

BY SCOTT BURNS ROBBIE NEILSON is determined to end three years of hell by finally taking Dundee United back to the Premiership.

The Tannadice club will begin their play-off bid next week when they take on the winners of the Inverness v Ayr clash, with Caley Thistle holding a 3-1 lead going into today’s return.

Neilson came in to replace Csaba Laszlo during the season and after guiding them to second spot he said: “My job is to get the team up.

“It’s more about Dundee United as a whole rather than anything personal.

“Most important of all it would be great for the fans because they’ve had a tough almost three years and are desperate to get back up again. The players are desperate to do it too.”

Finishing second has given United’s players more time to rest and recover for what they hope will be another four glory games, starting on Tuesday.

Neilson added: “I feel finishing second is massive. It gives you a break when the third or fourth team would have to play six games in 20 days to get up.

“It’s very important that we take advantage of that.

“Also both teams, Ayr and Inverness, have a few injuries, whereas we have a group of guys who came in in January and have probably only played 25 games in the whole season while other teams have players who have been involved in 50.

“Those two teams play a little bit differently so it’s more about how we play against that, whoever gets through.

“It’s about putting out your strongest team, maybe with one or two tweaks to take the opposition into consideration.”
