TERRIBLE TOLL OF SLASHINGS
THESE terrifying CCTV images show prison officer Stuart Sproull holding open a door for a crazed inmate – then being savagely slashed for his trouble.
Stuart was scarred for life in the attack by Thomas Stevenson in HMP Shotts on June 2016. Stevenson was later detained at the State Hospital, Carstairs.
Violence in prisons has been fuelled by the rivalry between the Daniel and Lyons gangs, with a long list of victims: ● Daniel clan hitman RAYMOND ANDERSON was last month slashed in Shotts Prison by a suspected gangland enemy.
Anderson, 55, is said to be the target of a lifetime vendetta and was attacked despite being escorted by a prison officer.
In 2008, Anderson was sentenced to the longest minimum jail term in Scottish legal history for the murder of Michael Lyons in Possil, Glasgow, in December 2006.
Anderson was recently in the same wing as Lyons gang member William Paterson, who is serving at least 22 years for the murder of Daniel crime clan enforcer Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll. ● JAMES McDONALD has been the perpetrator of many prison attacks and he himself was victim in June when his throat was slashed in Glenochil Prison.
The Daniel clan killer needed 30 stitches to the wound, which narrowly missed a main artery.
The attack on McDonald came after he allegedly issued a threat to drug baron Mark Richardson, who is serving eight years at Saughton jail in Edinburgh.
McDonald and Richardson know each other through close associations with the Daniel crime gang. Richardson has had affiliations with both sides. ● In April year ex-Army drug enforcer MARTYN FITZSIMMONS, 37, was slashed in HMP Low Moss.
The Daniel clan member, serving 10-and-a-half years for his role in a £200million drugs and arms plot, was targeted in the gym at the Bishopbriggs jail. The Glaswegian was caught with a Glock pistol, ammunition and £36,000 of dirty cash when cops smashed his underworld outfit.
Fitzsimmons and eight cronies, including Mark Richardson, were caged for a total of 87 years at the High Court in Glasgow in January.
They admitted abduction, torture, gun and drugs charges between 2013 and 2017. ● In February this year, Daniel clan member STEVEN WILKINSON, 44, was battered in the yard of Barlinnnie prison.
Wilkinson was locked up for six years after police caught him with a Skorpion sub-machine gun, ammunition and silencer in a car.
