HEARTS manager Craig Levein has received messages of support from the football world after he was rushed to hospital with a heart scare.

Levein, 53, was “recovering well” following the emergency yesterday, the Edinburgh club said in a brief statement on their website.

Dunfermline-born Levein, a former Scotland boss, was at Rugby Park on Saturday guiding his side to a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Hearts sit top of the Premiership with three wins out of three.

The club statement said: “Having received medical treatment, Craig is now recovering well in hospital. No further comment will be made at this time and the club asks that Craig and his family’s privacy be respected, as we all wish him a speedy recovery.”

Several Scottish clubs posted their best wishes on social media, including Edinburgh rivals Hibs. The Easter Road side tweeted: “We’re glad to hear that he is doing OK, hopefully it’s a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Craig”

Former Celtic striker and football pundit Chris Sutton tweeted: “Best wishes and let’s hope Craig Levein is back to full health as quickly as possible.”

Fans took to social media to offer their support.

One Hearts supporter posted: “Get well soon big man.” Another wrote: “Craig’s health is absolutely paramount but we’re on such a crest right now, this is not what we needed.

“I hope he gets the care and attention he needs then we see him in the dugout on Saturday.”

Freddie White posted: “Rivalry out the window when someone’s health isn’t the best.”

Assistant head coach Austin MacPhee will be in charge at Hearts until Levein returns to work.
