EWE IS NOT BAAA-D

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

ISLE OF EWE (3.40) can land the odds for in-form trainer Tom Lacey in the Bulloughs Handicap Hurdle at Wetherby.

Useful in bumpers, the sevenyear-old looked a nice recruit to timber when bolting up on her debut at Southwell 19 months ago.

The mare was an eye-catching sixth in a hot Market Rasen handicap on her belated return last month and should be primed.

GLANCE BACK (3.05) is worth a look in a trappy two-mile handicap chase. Emma-Jane Bishop’s gelding has taken well to fences and can take another step forward after his cosy defeat of the useful Mondo Cane at Leicester last month.

NORTONTHORPELEGEND (4.45) can continue his revival in the Racinguk.com Handicap Chase. Rebecca Menzies’s charge put in his best effort in a while when third to Straidnahanna at Catterick and is fairly treated on last season’s excellent form.

Gillian Boanas’s FLORAMOSS (5.15) can blossom in the staying handicap hurdle. The mare made late headway to take third on her first try at three miles in a strong Catterick event and is unexposed over long distances.

DONTMINDDBOYS (2.45) is one to remember on a competitive fixture at Towcester.

The nine-year-old is a model of consistency and remains well handicapped after chasing home Grand Introduction over course and distance last month.

There’s competitive all-weather action at Chelmsford where STRINGYBARK CREEK (2.20) can complete a hat-trick. Johnny Farrelly’s gelding looked to have plenty up his sleeve when beating Street Poet at Wolverhampton.

NONIOS (3.30) can claim the feature totequadpot Handicap for David Simcock.

The six-year-old produced a personal best when hacking up over course and distance last week and can defy a 6lb hike.

And Andrew Balding’s LUNA ECLIPSE (4.05) rates a confident pick in the totetrifecta Handicap.

The Bahamian Bounty colt relished the step up to a mile when striking at Kempton last month and can shrug off a 6lb penalty.

■ Trainer Chris Waller announced supermare Winx will not run at Royal Ascot in June.

The 17-time Grade One winner will remain in Australia for the Cox Plate rather than travelling.

■ Nine-time Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a tumour.

The 40-year-old said: “It’s a new challenge for me and one I am fully focused on overcoming.”
