SHAY HITS TOP GEAR

DONS LATEST Logan overtakes Eagles

- FRANK GILFEATHER sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

SHAY LOGAN used to take the bus to training while rival Manchester star Chris Eagles drove a white Bentley – now it’s the Aberdeen ace’s career that is hitting top gear. The 32-year-old former United attacker form’s in need of a jump start given he’s still to make an impact since joining struggling Ross County in November. But ex-City kid Logan’s enjoying life in the fast lane with high-flying Aberdeen who can leapfrog second-placed Rangers with victory over the Staggies tomorrow. Logan said: “Eagles was at United for a long time. I’ve known him for a while. “When we were younger enjoying the Manchester nightlife he was always out there with his white Bentley parked up because he was on however much money. “We’d get a bus into town and he’d be driving his Bentley. He was one of those guys who was quite flashy but he was a really nice person.” Logan can’t wait to face old rival Eagles in the Highlands having hit six goals against the Staggies since joining the Dons from Brentford four years ago. He said: “I don’t know why I always seem to score against them. Every time I go into the game now, especially up there, I always think I’m going to score. Hopefully it keeps happening.” Logan, 29, has no regrets about leaving English football behind to ply his trade in the Premiership. He reckons more talented kids will make the move with Premier League clubs spending funny money on transfers making it harder for youngsters to progress. Logan said: “I was playing well at Man City but they had the money to bring in somebody else. “From someone who has been involved in England and Scotland, it isn’t a bad place to come but it’s massively different down south money-wise. “The money’s a joke. It’s £40-£50million for any sort of player. It’s difficult for the young players. It’s going to be a lot harder for kids coming through because of that.”
