gagged Meghan’s divorced parents ahead of the wedding, asking them not to speak about their daughter and Prince Harry.

On Tuesday, we tracked down the father of three to his home in Mexico, where he has avoided the spotlight since news of the Suits star’s romance with Harry, 33, broke last year.

We found Thomas at his local Oxxo convenience store, where he bought a four-pack of Heineken and two packets of cigarettes.

The award-winning lighting technician will make the 5500-mile trip from his home just outside Rosarito Beach to London ahead of the May 26 wedding. Before the trip, he will be fitted for the traditional morning dress suit he will wear to walk divorced Meghan down the aisle of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Friends of the 73-year-old said his daughter’s wedding comes at a time when he is finally back on his feet after a difficult period in his life.

Last year, he declared himself bankrupt in California with credit card debts of £24,180 and savings of just £160.

Now, after turning his back on his home in Los Angeles and moving 150 miles south across the Mexican border to Rosarito Beach, he has managed to rebuild his life. A neighbour said: “Tom has had it tough but never once have we heard him complain or moan about his troubles.

“He has just got on with his life. Most days, he leaves his home mid-afternoon to run his errands but he does not come back for several hours.

“We all think he has found someone special or he has taken on a little job to pay his bills. “Tom will tell us when he is ready. “Life is certainly on the up for him and he is over the moon for his daughter.

“He is quite literally the proudest dad in Rosarito, if not Mexico – if not the world.”
