OUR RUN’S OVER
Scots band set to take the high road with farewell gig near Stirling Castle
SCOTS Celtic rockers Runrig will bring down the curtain on their 45-year career with a special farewell concert next summer.
The gig, titled The Last Dance, will be held in Stirling’s City Park on August 18.
Billed as one of the biggest events the band have ever staged, the celebration will be a thank you to fans who have followed Runrig over the decades.
Percussionist Calum MacDonald said: “We feel the timing is now right for a positive and celebratory conclusion.”
Drummer Iain Bayne added: “We want to make this a true celebration of the band’s career and the special bond we have with so many people from around the world.”
Since forming on Skye in 1973, Runrig, led by Donnie Munro, have performed at a string of top venues – from shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall to castles and arenas across Germany and Denmark to Times Square in New York.
Runrig’s version of Loch Lomond, the band say, has become an “unofficial alternative Scottish anthem”.
The group released their 14th and final studio album The Story in 2016.
A series of farewell shows, titled The Final Mile, will take place in Germany and Denmark, along with concerts in England before The Last Dance in Stirling.
Guitarist Malcolm Jones said: “Individual members will continue to write songs, record and engage in live performances.
“Various exciting Runrig legacy projects are in development.”
