A 10-YEAR-OLD boy needed stitches after he was stabbed with a bottle as he played with a friend.

The child’s mum was so horrified by the attack that she decided to go public with pictures of her son’s injury.

The mum said: “It sickens me to my stomach to think another child has done this to my son.

“It’s not OK for an adult to use a weapon, never mind a child.”

The mum said her son was bottled as he played near his grandfather’s house in Grangemouth on Saturday.

He told her he was stabbed with a WKD Blue bottle that had been lying on the ground.

The youngster was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, where his 6cm long wound was stitched.

The boy is recovering well at home but has to miss school until his eight stitches are removed.

His mum, 32, added: “I’ve taught my kids from the day they could understand that violence doesn’t solve anything.

“It just makes things worse and it doesn’t only get you into trouble but it also gets other people into trouble.

“Who is to say that if something like this was to happen again, that next time someone isn’t going to die?

“Back in my day, if you had an argument, you’d be friends again in half-an-hour and you’d never think of lifting your hands to someone or using a weapon on them.”

The mum told of the moment she found out her boy, who is in primary seven, had been injured.

She said: “My dad phoned me because he was there when it happened. I was on the phone to my friend when he tried to phone.

“The voicemail said my son had been stabbed, which sent me into a panic. Everything was running through my head. I was just flapping.

“I was stuck in the flat for another few hours because my partner was away fixing the car and I had no way of getting to the hospital. It was about 4pm by the time I got up there and I was panicking.

“When I arrived, he was sitting on the end of the bed. He’s been so brave throughout it all.

“The doctors were quite shocked that so much pain had been inflicted on a child by another person.

“They said the wound was 6cm long and 3cm deep – a bit more to the left and it would have been his spine.

“His little brother is a lot more upset about it than he is. He can’t look at the stitches because he’s so worried about him. He’s quite upset.”

A police spokeswoman said: “A 12-year-old boy has been charged following a serious assault on a 10-year-old boy in Glenbervie Road, Grangemouth, on Saturday.

“A report will be submitted to the Children’s Reporter.”
