Moult urges Well to sell if Dons front up

- GORDON PARKS

LOUIS MOULT last night urged Motherwell to make good on their gentleman’s agreement to let him leave when the price is right.

The Fir Park striker is frustrated Aberdeen’s bids of £250,000 and £400,000 have been rejected by the Steelmen who have also offered the Englishman an extension to his contract.

It’s understood that the Dons will need to hit the £500,000 mark before any business is done and Moult – whose deal has one year left to run – is hoping Well keep to their word of being a stepping stone to bigger things.

He said: “When I signed for Motherwell they sold the club to me by saying it’s a platform to go on and do better things. Everyone is on that mindset, working that extra bit harder and everyone pulling together – and that’s what I’ve done.

“When I first signed they said their aim was to sign me then sell me on to make money for the club as at the end of the day it’s a business.

“I’d like to think they stick to their word if something does happen and it appeals to me. There’s no point in me thinking about things until a bid is accepted. If you do then you can get caught up in things and it could affect your game. I don’t want that to happen.”

Despite boss Stevie Robinson’s attempts to retain Moult’s services beyond this summer, the frontman looks set to leave.

But he said: “I try not to think about the speculation. My priority is getting back into training and getting back playing with the lads.

“I haven’t trained with the boys during this pre-season yet but the plan is to train on Monday.

“It’s out of my hands but it’s a massive compliment that clubs are looking at me and bidding for me.

“Coming to Motherwell has been fantastic for me and my career. They’re a club I will always have a huge place in my heart for, whatever happens.”

● Moult was speaking as Motherwell’s Football Community Trust received a £3000 donation from Radio Clyde’s Cash for Kids charity, raised by staff and Asda customers in Lanarkshire.
