CUBS EYE A DEVINE FINAL WIN

- BY SIMON BIRD

TOTTENHAM rookie Alfie Devine admits it would “mean everything” to win UEFA’s European Under-19 Championship with England.

Steve Holland – Gareth Southgate’s No.2 – will fly in to add support to the Three Lions cubs, the latest FA youth team to reach a major final.

England’s teenagers face Israel tonight with Premier League managers, including Antonio Conte, monitoring how their top young talent will perform under pressure to deliver.

Devine (above) scored a belter against Austria in the group stages in Slovakia and is highly rated by Spurs boss Conte, who wants to extend his contract this summer and send the 17-year-old forward out on loan to experience regular senior football.

He became the youngest player and goalscorer at senior level in Tottenham’s history when he scored against Marine, aged 16, in the FA Cup in January 2021 (celebrating, below).

Devine leads a talented bunch of kids and said: “Getting selected for your national team is a very proud moment and the club knows that.

“Every time we get selected they do everything they can to make sure you’re fit to go.

“I’m privileged to be here and going to a final now. To win on Friday would mean everything — I mean everything.

“Everyone aspires to go and play for the seniors. I don’t know why anyone in this group couldn’t do that.

“These tournaments, no matter what the situation is with your club, do you the world of good. All the attention back home, people here as well, does you the world of good.” ENGLAND: Cox, Norton-Cuffy, Edwards, Quansah, Doyle, Scott, Chukwuemeka, Devine, Ramsey, Vale, Scarlett
