in history. Alisson lost his father Jose in February after he tragically drowned but the highlyemotional Brazilian said he would be looking down from heaven.

Alisson said: “I hope he was here to see it but I’m sure that he has seen it with God on his side and celebrating.

“It’s for my family, for the boys. What a fight.

“Just scoring this goal, I am really happy to help them because they fight a lot, we fight a lot together and we have a strong goal to achieve the Champions League because we won it once and everything starts with qualification.

“I’m too emotional because of this last month and everything that happened with me and my family.

“But football is my life and I have played since I remember as a human being with my father. I can’t be more happy than I am now.

“I’ve been away from interviews for a long time. It was a difficult time because when I talk about it I get emotional on that, but I just really want to thank all of you, all the Premier League and all the players.

“I just tried to put my head on the ball. It was one of the best goals I ever scored. It’s the only goal I’ve scored, so it’s the best I’ve scored! I’m really happy.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was desperate for victory to keep his team’s top-four hopes going and paid tribute to Alisson.

He said: “What a goal. It could not have happened to a nicer person, a more special person after what he has been through this season.

“It was a perfect moment. If he never does anything like that again in his life, then I will be fine with that.

“If Olivier Giroud scores a goal like this, then everybody would be saying it’s a world-class goal.”

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce was unhappy after his side had a goal ruled out because of a VAR decision and also insisted it should have been a foul before Liverpool’s equaliser.

Allardyce said: “Jurgen is a lucky man, he’s got away with one here and he knows it.”
