What a Peaty to ignore him
THE wor worth of one truly great British sportsman has been heartily debated these past few days, the worth of another has not. Adam Peaty (left), the Olympic gold med medallist and eight times world cha champion, broke yet another rec record on Sunday, the same day Le Lewis Hamilton (right) was w winning a seventh world title. Peaty now holds the world record in the 50m and 100m long-course breaststroke and the he 1 100m short-course breaststroke. e He is the most undervalued sportsman in the country. And he still lives here and he competes in a level swimming pool.
At this rate, in the race for a knighthood, he might soon not be too far in Lewis’s wake.
APART from it is a game favoured by public school and Oxbridge types, Tories and toffs, can anyone explain why, out of a £300million Government bailout of sport, rugby union gets £135m, with around £60m of that going to Premiership clubs?
These are supposed to be highly professional outfits, run responsibly and ready to cope with crises.
The Premiership sold a stake for over £200m to private equity firm
CVC a couple of years ago yet now they are getting massive Government handouts. Unlike, for instance, professional football clubs in League One and League Two.
There might be some sort of logical explanation for this seemingly preferential treatment … but it could be just what this Government specialises in. Rotten, old-fashioned cronyism. It is a wonder they are not bailing out the Bullingdon Club.
