ROWETT WARY OF CLARETS CUP THREAT

- BY LIZ BYRNES BARTOSZ BIALKOWSKI (MILLWALL)

MILLWALL boss Gary Rowett is not looking beyond his side’s EFL Cup fixture with Burnley after the Lions claimed their first win of the season.

Jed Wallace pounced on a mistake by Michael Ihiekwe, who let the ball slip underneath his foot, before he rounded keeper Jamal Blackman and slotted the ball into the empty net.

That made it four points from two games for Millwall, who host the Clarets on Wednesday, the winners facing either Manchester City or Bournemouth in the fourth round.

Rowett said: “Burnley are a very good side and are in the Premier League, so I think we’d be really stupid to look anywhere past the tie.

“We have got to go and play really well against Burnley and I’m sure it will be really difficult.”

The Lions boss knows the fans could have made a real difference at The Den and said: “It’s ‘half a game’ really and certainly Wednesday will be the same.

“But we’ve all got to be professional, we’ve all got to try to win the game, and sometimes you have to have a mentality to create that tempo yourself.

“But against a Premier League side like Burnley, to have fans there would be fantastic just to give us that extra lift.”

Rotherham dominated the first half against the Lions, but could not force an equaliser.

Midfielder Shaun MacDonald said: “This is a tough league and some clubs have massive budgets, especially compared to ours. We know there will be some ups and downs, but we’ve got a good feeling in the squad this year.”

ROTHERHAM: Blackman 6, Harding 6, Ihiekwe 5, A MacDonald 6, Mattock 7, Ogbene 7, S MacDonald 6, Lindsay 6 (Crooks 76, 5), Sadlier 7 (Wiles 66, 5), Ladapo 6 (Hirst 65, 5) Smith 6 MILLWALL: Bialkowski 8, Hutchinson 6, Pearce 6, Cooper 6, Woods 7, Jed Wallace 7, Romeo 6 (Williams 74, 5), Leonard 6, Malone 6 (Murray Wallace 74, 5), Bennett 6 (Smith 82) Bradshaw 6
