Letter to DJ who played Beatles sold
HISTORICAL The letter
A LETTER from George Harrison’s sister thanking the DJ who backed The Beatles in America has sold for £14,000.
Louise Harrison Caldwell praised Carroll James for having the “wisdom” to play I Want to Hold Your Hand in November 1963.
She had moved to Illinois in the early 1960s and spent months unsuccessfully trying to get the band’s music on US radio.
James played it at the request of a listener who had asked after the “new band from England”.
He asked a stewardess he was dating to bring the single from England.
Gary Mayers, from Heritage Auctions, Texas, who sold the letter said it was “a true snapshot of Beatles history and the beginning of Beatlemania in America”.
Juventus star shows off his abs
RELAXING by the ocean, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have got over his team’s early exit from the Champions League.
The footballer and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez were seen soaking up the sun on board their £5.5million superyacht off the coast of St Tropez, France, earlier this week.
The Juventus striker 35, and model, 26, jumped in the water to swim, snorkel and relax as Cristiano showed off his six pack and Georgina wore a racy black bikini for a day of fun on board the vessel.
The couple, who met in Madrid, jetted off with daughter Alana Martina, two, and Cristiano’s son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, 10, and twins Eva and Mateo, three.
