Violet Slater, 85, has been dubbed “Granaldo” after becoming an internet sensation during lockdown.

Footage of the pensioner volleying shots into the net in her son Phil’s garden has delighted millions on social media.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker and Spurs ace Dele Alli have praised her.

The videos show the Wolves fan doing keepie-uppies and hitting “top bins” into goal corners with amazing accuracy.

In one clip she does a “Ravanelli”, pulling her shirt over her head as she mimicks the Italian footballer.

Others show her volleying the ball from a garden chair and chipping it in from a sofa.

Violet, of Telford, Shrops, has been in a wheelchair since breaking her hip while on holiday in Jamaica. Her rehab includes playing with grandson Kodi, 11, who put the videos on social media. Violet said: “It’s put the life back into me to keep on going. It’s so exciting to know all my friends and family are watching.”

Asked how long each shot takes to perfect, she replied: “I don’t like to be beaten so I persevere until I get it right. I stick my tongue out when I concentrate, I’ve a good

Phil added: “We’re hoping to inspire others to keep active in their gardens.”
