Brodie Cooper, of US entertainment consultancy JDMC, said the award would make her one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars.

“Her agents and studios know that any project she takes next has the allimportant seal of approval of the Best Actress Academy Award Winner on the posters and pitch.
“Olivia’s earning power has easily quadrupled overnight.
“And let’s not forget, the early talk is already her performance on The Crown is astonishing and awardworthy – so in a year’s time she has the potential to stand shoulder to shoulder with the A-list actresses like Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Glenn Close. In the short term she is looking at opportunities totalling well over £25million”
Glenn Close had been seen as a shoo-in for the Oscar for her role in The
Wife. Lady Gaga, Yalitza Aparicio and Melissa McCarthy were also nominated.
Giving her acceptance speech, Olivia apologised to Glenn, saying: “You’ve been my idol for so long, this is not how I wanted it to be and I think you’re amazing and I love you very much.”
She also gave a message to others who wanted to follow in her footsteps, saying: “Any little girl who’s practising her speech on the telly, you never know. I used to work as a cleaner and I loved that job, but I did spend quite a lot of my time imagining this.” Norwichborn Olivia w a s privately educated and trained as a primary school teacher at Homerton College, Cambridge. But she decided to change career, studying drama at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, picking up odd jobs such as cleaning to pay the bills.
Her success began in 2003 when she was cast in Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show with old pals David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Later she landed the role of Det Sgt Ellie Miller alongside David Tennant in ITV’s Broadchurch.
She later starred in the BBC’s The Night Manager and more recently The Crown, where she takes over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy.
Rami Malek, 37, won Best Actor for his role as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.
He fell off the stage at the end of the ceremony but was not seriously hurt.
The surviving members of Queen, with frontman Adam Lambert, had earlier opened the ceremony.
