Canaries to swoop for Rosler

- BY JAMES NURSEY

NEW Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber has his eyes on Uwe Rosler again.

Welsh-born Webber swapped tonight’s opponents Huddersfield for Norwich this week.

City still have slim hopes of grabbing a play-off place but Webber’s priority is to replace Alex Neil who was sacked by the relegated Canaries last month.

And Mirror Sport understands Webber’s top choice is Fleetwood manager Rosler.

Webber had Rosler on standby to replace David Wagner at Huddersfield in December when the Town boss was courted by Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

His plan was put on ice when highly-rated Wagner opted to remain at Huddersfield.

But Webber has resurrected his interest in former Brentford, Wigan and Leeds boss Rosler after moving to Carrow Road.

Rosler has guided Fleetwood into the League One play-off shake-up, defying bookies who had them down as one of the favourites for relegation.

Wagner’s side are in great shape for a play-off place – and the German says just making the playoffs will be special.

“There are 21 teams who would love to be in our position – this is what we have to realise,’’ he said.

“What the players have achieved so far is something special. It is incredible to be fighting for a play-off place.

“Making the play-offs would be an unbelievable achievement for this club. We have to be totally realistic about that.

“Anything else is so far away and unrealistic. All you can ask for is effort and attitude, every point is hard to fight for in this division.

“We are Huddersfield Town and if I said before the season we would be challenging you would send me off to the hospital.”
