We could bring process to a standstill

-

THERESA May and her Tory Government resemble a medieval court more every single day. This shameless power grab under the cloak of secondary legislation would have made Henry VIII blush.

Tories have been handed an opportunity and are taking it. The Great Repeal Bill will rebuild decades of laws to make them fit into a UK outside Europe. Unfortunately, this could also let them remake our law to fit into a blinkered Tory vision of the UK.

The Lib Dems will fight for high standards for health, safety, consumer protection, the environment, employment and equalities that the UK had from being part of the EU.

Nobody voted to get rid of their rights, make themselves poorer or to make their country less safe. Yet that is what we are getting as the Tories have chosen to pursue the hardest, most divisive Brexit, seeking to create lowregulation, low-grade Britain.

We will have another fight to protect British jobs and business. Firms were told Brexit would protect them from red tape but hard Brexit means dealing with thousands of new regulations.

All these battles could become all-out legislative war. If needed, we will grind the Government’s agenda to a standstill unless proper and rigorous safeguards are given.

As the Tories rebuild this country’s laws we will have to fight them harder than ever.
