Omar double puts brakes on Neil’s men

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

OMAR BOGLE scored his first two Wigan goals as Yanic Wildschut endured a frustrating return to the DW Stadium.

Wildschut was jeered by the home fans because of his controversial switch to Norwich last week and he got the biggest cheer of the night when he was taken off late in the second half.

By then Bogle had scored twice on his full Latics debut to cancel out Nelson Oliveira’s opener.

Norwich salvaged a point when Mitchell Dijks, on loan from Ajax, headed home an equaliser – but Alex Neil’s side remain just outside the playoff places in seventh.

The boos for Wildschut were predictable – he was returning to the DW just a week after he slapped in a transfer request to force his £7million move to promotionchasing Norwich.

The home fans howled with delight when a through-ball hit the Dutch winger’s back as he attempted to slip through the Wigan defence.

The Latics used £750,000 of Wildschut’s fee to sign Bogle from Grimsby and the striker was denied by John Ruddy as he attempted to add to his 19 goals for the League Two side on his full debut.

FOURTH ODI, Cape Town South Africa 367-5 (F du Plessis 185 AB de Villiers 64) v Jonny Howson smacked a 25-yard drive against the face of the bar.

Russell Martin headed home the rebound but the Canaries skipper was ruled offside.

They kept up the pressure on a Wigan side who could barely string two passes together in the opening half and Wildschut almost silenced the home fans with a deflected effort.

There was an inevitability about Norwich’s opener on 40 minutes – Alex Pritchard swung over a free-kick from the right and Nelson Oliveira headed home his ninth goal of the season.

Will Grigg replaced James Weir at half-time and his introduction lifted Wigan as he headed wide and had a deflected shot saved by Ruddy. Finally Wigan were putting

Wigan’s lead was shortlived – Dijks headed home Pritchard’s corner from close range on 73 minutes.

Both sides pushed for a winner and Ruddy saved well from Sam Morsy before Wigan keeper Jakob Haugaard made a fine stop from Josh Murphy.
