KANE: LET ME TAKE AIM AT AULD ENEMY

Super striker has an incredible derby record... and now he wants to prove it against Scotland

HARRY KANE cannot hide his desperation to play in the biggest derby of all.

The Tottenham striker has an incredible record against London rivals – 15 goals in his last 15 derbies – and five in his last four league games against Arsenal.

Kane’s statistics are almost certain to persuade Gareth Southgate to throw the fit-again forward into Friday’s showdown with Scotland.

Southgate is also giving serious consideration to making Kane his captain in the long term.

That will further motivate a player who admitted he was determined to play in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with the Gunners to prove he was ready for England after two months out with an ankle injury.

Kane said: “I seem to do well in games against rivals. England’s no different, if I’m picked to play I’ll be gunning into that game full of passion and full of pride and trying to win the game for our country. The Arsenal game was good preparation for Scotland on Friday. We all know how big the game is on Friday, we’re all looking forward to it very much.

“It will be an amazing atmosphere and some great competition on the pitch. All you do is take preparations like Sunday into the international game and that’s what I’ll try to do.

“It feels great to be back for Spurs and to be back with England is always special. Missing the last trip with England was hard to take but the ankle feels good now and it’s great to be back in the fold.

“I’d been training leading up to the Arsenal game and it was in the back of my mind that I wanted to be fit enough to be called up. I knew I had to be fit for that to be an option.

“We can all feel the buzz around here and how much it means to everyone, we want to send the fans home happy with a good result and hopefully a performance as well, we are definitely up for the game.

“We have to use all the positive energy to win. It’s not a game where if you lose it doesn’t really mater and you don’t hear about it very much.

“We know the Scottish players and have Scottish friends. They will make it heard if they beat us so we don’t want that to happen.”

Three Lions interim boss Southgate greeted all of the players with a threeminute film of previous meetings between England and Scotland.

It was designed to gee up his men and get them in the right frame of mind even though there is no love lost between the countries.

However, Kane also warned cool heads and discipline are vital in what will be a feisty atmosphere.

Those are the sort of qualities Southgate –who will get the job on a permanent basis if England beat Scotland – is looking for as he thinks about his next captain.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson led the team in Slovenia last month, when Kane was ruled out by injury, and Southgate has yet to decide who might take over from Rooney.

Kane will probably not be skipper on Friday as Rooney could start – especially with Dele Alli out injured.

“We don’t want to get any silly bookings or red cards,” said Kane. “We want all our men on the pitch.

“There will be tackles flying in because that’s the nature of the game, so it’s important to keep a cool head and remain calm.

“We had a meeting last night and were shown a montage of previous games. It’s great to look back and deal with that just to feel the importance of the game, to feel the importance as players, staff and fans.

“We know what it means. Gareth obviously knows what it means and we’re looking forward to that.”

Kane also believes he is fully fit to start despite having just one game back and also hopes the players can help Southgate get the job.

He added: “I definitely feel fit and sharp and I’m sure it will put me in good stead for the rest of the season. We’re just concentrating on winning the game, and Gareth is doing everything he can to do that.”

I seem to do well against rivals and I’ll be full of pride for this game
