MESSAGE IN OUR BOTTLE

- BY GARY RALSTON

Rangers (1) v Osijek (0) Europa League, 2nd leg, KO 7.45pm

STEVEN GERRARD has ordered his Gers to settle the jitters and help fans raise the roof off Ibrox.

The Rangers boss has refused to deliver a pre-match message to the Light Blues legions because he reckons the actions of his players will speak louder than any of his words.

Rangers are looking to build on a 1-0 first-leg lead against Osijek as sell-out Ibrox prepares to host the biggest crowd in European football tonight.

Gerrard (right) is looking to progress to the third round of Europa League qualifying against Slovenians Maribor or Georgian side Chikhura Sachkhere and doesn’t mind if the fans get antsy.

He said: “Nerves are good and mean you are involved in big matches. Nerves are part of the buzz for me. In terms of messages to the fans, I don’t think I should give them one. But I hope my players turn up and give the message for me.

“We want our supporters to get behind the team, enjoy the night and take the roof off.

“My players should give them a message in the opening stages of the game. Start well, play at an intensity and play some nice football.”

Rangers welcome back Scott Arfield after a knee injury ruled him out of the first leg and new striker Umar Sadiq is likely to start on the bench.

Gerrard refused to mention Hearts frontman Kyle Lafferty by name but added: “We still want to add a few targets into the group but I won’t be mentioning names or players that belong to different clubs.

“We haven’t much time left and every manager is in a rush. But at the same time we won’t make rushed decisions.”
