SO JEALOUS MY BEST PAL’S GETTING WED

-

Dear Coleen

I’m embarrassed to admit to this, but my best mate is getting married in August and I feel so jealous. In our group of friends we were the only two single people left, so we saw each other all the time for nights out, nights in and holidays.

Since she got engaged last year we don’t see each other as much and I’m starting to feel there’s nothing to connect me to my group of friends any more.

I feel bad about myself and I’m starting to think I’ll never find a partner and be happy. I also have to be my friend’s maid of honour at her wedding, but I’m finding it increasingly hard to plaster a smile on my face when we’re talking about arrangements, dresses and the hen party.

Am I a terrible person?

Coleen says

No, you’re not, but it would be a real shame if you let these feelings overtake what should be a really happy occasion and a great time for you, too, sharing in your best friend’s special day.

It’s not easy, but it’s about changing your mindset and making a promise to yourself to embrace it and have a good time. At the end of the day, if your friends get married and have babies, that has no impact on whether you’ll find a partner or not.

You haven’t met the right person but, when you do, it will have been worth the wait and I’m sure you’ll want all your friends to share in it. What you shouldn’t do is panic and see every guy you meet as a potential husband.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, think about all the great things in your life.

If you come across as a confident, positive person, there’s nothing more attractive.
