- BY RYAN SMITH

A COUNCILLOR is calling for more protection for businesses as police probe a third robbery at a shop in the space of a month.

Last Tuesday, two men entered Mace on the Suffolk Road armed with a hammer before threatening staff.

They made off with cash and cigarettes towards Glenveagh Park.

Sinn Fein Councillor Arder Carson told the Mirror: “This is the third time in as many weeks this business has been targeted. On this occasion money and stock was taken.

“This is deplorable and the PSNI needs to work with local businesses to ensure they are protected and apprehend those involved.

“This is a despairing situation for the owner, his staff and the local community who rely on the service he provides. Collectively we all need to work together to bring these robberies to an end.”

A PSNI spokesman said: “The man carrying the hammer was wearing light grey tracksuit bottoms, a light grey hooded top, a black scarf, dark coloured trainers with white soles, a dark coloured hat and gloves.

“The second man wore a distinctive coat which was bright yellow with dark coloured sleeves and hood and white cuffs.

“Robbers have targeted shops on same Belfast road for second time in less than three weeks
