MOORE: WINTER CAN TURN UP HEAT
RYAN MOORE is confident his Prix de l’arc de Triomphe mount Winter won’t fail for staying power when attempting a mile and a half for the first time at Chantilly on Sunday.
Moore (right), who partners Winter in preference to stablemates Capri, Order Of St George, Idaho and Seventh Heaven, said yesterday: “She’s won over a mile and a quarter and she wasn’t stopping at the end of her previous races.
“It’s a hard race with 18 runners, but she’s won four Group 1s this year and she’s a good racemare.”
Four-time Group 1 heroine Enable, bidding to give Frankie Dettori a record fifth Arc triumph, is as short as 4-5 to beat a field of 17 opponents.
But champion jockey Jim Crowley, whose mount Ulysses finished four and a half lengths behind Enable in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July, believes the Sir Michael Stoute-trained fouryear-old can narrow the gap. “He’s won an Eclipse and a Juddmonte International and he can still improve,” said Crowley.
JOCKEY Dale Swift was yesterday banned for 21 months by the BHA after testing positive for cocaine for a second time.
Fellow rider Graham Gibbons was due to face charges of a failed cocaine test and switching a urine sample, but his case was deferred after he suffered “transportation issues.”
