I’M DITHERING OVER MY NEW JOB ABROAD

-

Dear Coleen

A colleague at work told everyone I was stealing from her until I found out about it and put the record straight. But the whole affair upset me so much that I applied and got a job in a different country.

Since then, this colleague has left the company in disgrace, but I had already been offered the job abroad and accepted it.

Now I’m feeling depressed because I’m leaving everything behind, even though I don’t have a reason to anymore. What do I do?

Coleen says

What are you actually leaving behind – a job you felt depressed in? I don’t think that this person leaving should necessarily change your plans.

It could be that because of everything that’s gone on, this is the perfect time for a fresh start in every aspect of your life. You now have a chance to do something new and exciting, even if it’s just for a period of time. Why not grasp the opportunity?

I don’t think the situation with your colleague was the only thing that made you accept a job abroad – deep down you were probably ready for a change.

And fretting over the fact that you could have kept your job doesn’t change what happened and how you feel about the place. Change, although scary, is usually a very good thing and enriches your life, so don’t be fearful.
