In hideous detail, ‘murder note’ found in the bedroom of Brianna stabbing suspect

- By James Tozer and Liz Hull

A CHILLING note detailing the steps to murder Brianna Ghey which was found in one of the suspect’s bedrooms was shown to jurors yesterday.

The note was written by a teenage girl, referred to as Girl X, before she and a male friend – Boy Y – allegedly carried out the killing.

Searches carried out by the police at the 15-year- old girl’s home also found notes she had made about serial killers, a court heard.

She had placed them into categories and, in some cases, listed how many people they had murdered, it is alleged.

Girl X is accused, along with the boy, who was also 15 at the time, of murdering Brianna – who was transgender – in Culcheth Linear Park, near Warrington, Cheshire, on February 11.

The pair, who cannot be named because of their age, are said to have been fascinated by torture, violence and death. Both deny Brianna’s murder, blaming each other.

The crumpled note, which was headed ‘Saturday 11th February 2023. Victim: Brianna Ghey’, was found in the girl’s bedroom following her arrest, jurors were told. The court heard that ‘timid’ Brianna, 16, had been found dying from 28 stab wounds.

‘It is clearly a plan to kill Brianna Ghey,’ Deanna Heer KC told jurors last week.

Yesterday, the court heard that the note had been found on the girl’s bedroom floor as a list of agreed facts were read out at the end of the prosecution’s case.

Written on lined paper, the note is marked with a small heart. The word ‘plan’ is written underneath and underlined.

It reads: ‘ Meet [ Boy Y] at wooden posts 1pm. Walk down to library, bus stop.

‘Wait until Brianna gets off bus, then the three of us walk to Linear Park. Go to the pipe/tunnel area.

‘I say code word to [Boy Y]. He stabs her in the back as I stab her in the stomach.

‘[Boy Y] drags the body into the area. We both cover up the area with logs etc.’

Notes on serial killers such as Americans Jeffrey Dahmer and Richard Ramirez and the British doctor Harold Shipman were also found in a black Pukka notebook, Manchester Crown Court heard.

The handwritten notes also contained words including forgiveness, justice, suffering, punishment, sin and free will. A spider diagram was drawn with the words good and evil in the middle of it.

Describing the contents of the notebook, Cheryl Mottram, acting for the prosecution, said: ‘We have types of serial killers.’

They were listed under the headings ‘organised, disorganised, organised and disorganised, crime spree, mass murderer, psychopathic sexual sadist, custodial, psychotic, organised crime and copycat’, Ms Mottram said. Another note listed facts about serial killers and their characteristics, including ‘ hedonistic’, ‘ mutilation’, ‘sexual predatory behaviour’ and ‘can be superficially charming’.

A second plan detailing a proposed killing was also found. It read: ‘ Give her alcohol, sleeping pills, slit her throat – I will kill her. Dismember body and place pieces in bin bags, bury bags seven feet underground. Get her to go to Linear Park. Someone jumps out and restrains her and then I kill her.’ Forensic blood expert Joanne Middleton told the court that blood stains found on Boy Y and his clothes could not determine whether he was the attacker or just someone who had bent down over Brianna’s body after she had been attacked.

The previous day, jurors had heard from a different forensic expert who said blood stains found on Boy Y’s ski jacket could be explained by him being in close proximity to ‘airborne’ blood.

Girl X, of Warrington, and Boy Y, from Leigh, Greater Manchester, who are now both 16, deny murder and blame each other for wielding the hunting knife which allegedly inflicted the fatal wounds. The trial continues.
