Love Island success story Molly-Mae under fire for saying anyone can be a millionaire

- Daily Mail Reporter

AS one of the most recognisable faces from TV dating show Love Island, she’s more likely to be seen snapping a picture of herself in a bikini at an exotic resort than weighing in on socio-economic policies.

But Molly-Mae Hague, 22, has come under fire for ‘tone deaf’ comments about wealth inequality in an interview.

She was even dubbed ‘ Margaret Thatcher with a fake tan’ after claiming anybody could achieve similar levels of wealth if they put their mind to it.

Social media users yesterday branded Miss Hague disrespectful to workers

‘If you want something you can achieve it’

who did multiple jobs to put a roof over their families’ heads.

The social media star, who appeared on the ITV2 reality show in 2019, was last year named the creative director of clothing brand PrettyLittleThing, a title with a seven-figure salary.

Miss Hague, with six million Instagram followers and 1.5million YouTube subscribers, claimed her net wealth — well into seven figures — was because she ‘worked my a**e off’.

During the YouTube series, The Diary of a CEO, she said: ‘You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction.

‘I understand we all have different backgrounds and we’re all raised in different ways and have different financial situations, but I think if you want something enough you can achieve it. It depends on what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in future.’

The clip was first aired on December 13 but went viral on Twitter yesterday. One user jibed: ‘She literally just went on a TV dating show and got brand deals, I’m not sure she “worked her a**e off”.’

Another said: ‘Her immaturity is showing. If you come from a place of privilege you should work extra hard to educate yourself on the hardships of others.’

A third joked: ‘I should’ve put Molly Mae being Margaret Thatcher with a fake tan on my 2022 bingo card.’

Miss Hague was runner-up on the fifth series of Love Island alongside her boyfriend Tommy Fury, 22, the half-brother of world champion boxer Tyson Fury.
