Doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social and care workers. Producers and distributors of medicine and medical and personal protective equipment.
Utilities, communication and financial services:
Staff in essential financial services such as banks and stock markets; oil, gas, electricity and water sectors; and postal, sewage and telecoms services.
Education and childcare:
Nursery and teaching staff, social workers and any specialist education professionals who must remain active to keep schools running.
Key public services:
Those running the justice system, religious and charity staff, undertakers, journalists, public service broadcasters.
Local and national government:
Administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the Covid-19 response or delivering essential public services such as benefits payments.
Food and other necessary goods:
Those involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery, and any essential to the provision of other key goods such as hygienic and veterinary medicines.
Public safety and national security:
Police and support staff, Ministry of Defence workers, the Armed Forces, fire and rescue services, those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles.
Transport:
All those workers involved in air, water, road and railway transport – either passenger or freight.
