Ghoulish selfies at scene of tragedy
HOLIDAYMAKERS yesterday posed for ghoulish photographs at the site of the Tunisian massacre.
Just two days after dozens of sunbathers were shot dead at the popular resort of El Kantaoui near Sousse, tourists returned to the beaches.
Among them were holidaymakers in bikinis and shorts who peered over the police cordon to take a closer look and took photographs of the scene where dozens of people were shot dead.
Some even posed for photographs using a ‘selfie stick’ next to the upturned sun loungers and floral tributes – and were described as ‘disgusting’ on social media websites.
Yesterday, it emerged that hundreds of British holidaymakers had refused early flights home and will continue with their holiday. A spokesman for the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) said they had shown a ‘stiff upper lip’ by refusing to be intimidated by the attacks.
Tunisia is a popular destination for Britons and more than 20,000 were holidaying there when the terrorist struck. One of the biggest airlifts ever organised by British tour companies is under way and 5,000 tourists are thought to have returned.
But there were also reports that at least four aircraft had returned to British airports virtually empty.
An ABTA spokesman said: ‘Companies are giving customers the option and a lot of people have said they are quite happy to continue with their holiday in the affected resorts.
‘This was an appalling incident but British holidaymakers decided they are not going to give in and will show resilience.’
